What is the lens base curve?
Normally China optical lenses supplier will call the base curve of lens front side base curve as lens base.
It’s ranged from 50 base, 100 base, until 1200 base maximum,
How is the base curve influence lens functions?
As we know, there have finished lenses and semi-finished lenses. Let’s divide it into 2 parts to help you clear about this information:
1.For finished lenses
With lower base curve, lens will appears more real view for wearing people
With the base curve increasing, lens will looks more thicker compare to lower base curve
If lens base curve goes too higher, lens prescription will be effected to wrongly
Nowadays, with the technology of production improving constantly, new lens factories are using the lower base curve and we call it Aspherical design to make lens more beauty compare to previous old technology mould.
For some flat frames, high base curve for big power will be hard to install.

Normally semi-finished lenses supplier will provide specification sheet to freeform lab client, they should set base curve information into the freeform machine so that lens prescription will be accuracy after grinding.
Sometimes there have some supplier can’t provide semi-finished lenses specification sheet which indicates correct base curve, or base curve in specification sheet can’t match actual lens base, it will cuz high defective rate in freeform lab side.
